How can I listen to my garmin nuvi 350’s mp3 player in my car’s stereo?

July 31st, 2009

How does it work? I’ve a CD/FM radio in my car and want to listen to the music via my GPS. Is there any extra cable I need to buy and hook up or what?

Thanks in advance!
I onlyhave CD and radio, no cassette player so that option is out…

I found the best thing since sliced bread…http://www.crutchfield.com/S-9oDEWuNVIo6/cgi-bin/prodview.asp?i=142FMMOD01

It’s not wireless so there’s no interference. Not to be confused with an FM transmitter. Basically it adds an AUX input to ANY radio. No searching for a clean channel.

It feeds your audio signal from a headphone jack ( or RCA cables) by FM modulation, directly into the antenna input on your radio bypassing the antenna when on, allowing the radio to work as normal when off. It comes with an On/Off switch.

This is the answer. Totally versatile.

How to choose a good GPS? (Garmin, Navman and Pioneer)?

July 31st, 2009

Hi, Guys.

I plan to buy a GPS. Does anyone can tell me which one is better as below.

1.Garmin nuvi 350
http://garmin.factoryoutletstore.com/browse/fdccb6d4c58b32d7e294bd68c5b1845c/Garmin_Nuvi_GPS_Units.html

2.Pioneer AVIC-S1
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v3/pg/product/details/0,,2076_310069683_309501410,00.html?compName=PNA_V3_ProductDetailsComponent

3.NAVMAN F20
http://www.navman.com/Navman/templates/productinformation____65217.aspx

Garmin is a used GPS. My friend wants to sell me by US300. Others need to be purchased from retail store. Both of them are brand new, price are USD250.

Please commend.

Thanks anyway.

Well, I’ve owned 3 GPS’s, which I thought served it’s purpose, until I got the Nuvi 350…I LOVE IT! It is very highly rated in consumer reports. I bought mine off eBay for $250, refurbished…it’s in brand new condition. Refurbished doesn’t necessarily mean broken and fixed. You get a much cheaper price and it’s actually been checked over by the technicians twice, although some may have scratches. But, I’d def go with the Nuvi. Check on ebay before buying from your friend, unless she’s got the mounts and SD cards, case, and other accessories to go with it, also, make sure it works! Have fun with it!!!

I’m looking to buy a portable GPS navigator. What’s the best one for the money?

July 31st, 2009

I’ve looked at Consumer Reports and read some reviews online. I like to get everyone’s opinion on the good, the bad and the "ugly." So far the Garmin Nuvi 350 is looking pretty good. I’d like to stay around $300 or under.
MelDogg, I don’t understand how that answers my question. Keep answering questions like that and you’ll be flagged for abuse. (I’m sure you care.)

Get a Garmin. No hype. The best there is.

Garmin Nuvi 260 and 255w Reviews?

July 31st, 2009

Hi. I am interested in purchasing a GPS for my car and to carry around when I’m not the driver. The two I have in mind and from Garmin. The first one is the Garmin Nuvi 260 http://shop1.frys.com/product/5489249;jsessionid=19cRLqWgv9Hf0wN1fabtLw**.node3?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG
The second one is the Garmin Nuvi 255w http://shop1.frys.com/product/5567570;jsessionid=g4zAHAkdwvlTTtqNn3b8cQ**.node3?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG
For those of you who know something about GPS systems, which is better or which ones have you used and had positive/negative experiences with? Also what does the “w” at the end stand for? There is a $50 difference in price. I was told by the sales associate that the 255w is a newer model. But I have read around that the sound quality isn’t as great as the older model. The one I was going to buy is 3.5” so if anyone has any suggestions please help. Thanks.

The 255 that i own is great, no complaints about it. The major difference between the two is the updated map. If you’re someone who travels a lot you might want to invest in the newer version. You can go onto the Garmin website and click on the products you want to compare and they show you a very detailed chart with the products side by side so you can actually take a look at where they differ. The W is for wide screen. Usually more money, but since you’re looking for a 3.5, you can go without the W. The sound quality of my 255 isn’t that bad, you get to choose the voice you want; although the voice doesn’t sound as human as the older versions, it’s not that bad. It’s a trade-off. You get better features, but you lack the human sound (it’s a bit more robotic)

Hope I answered your question!

Advice Re Nuvi 650 vs. Navigon 7100 (same price $300) – which would you prefer & why?

July 30th, 2009

I like the free traffic subscription plus the bluetooth with the Navigon for the same price as the Nuvi, but reviews seem to indicate problems with Navigon’s maps while the Garmin gets rave reviews. Consumer Reports doesn’t even mention Navigon. I wonder whether anyone has experience to share. Thanks!

I would go with the Garmin without hesitation. I have not used the two particular models you listed, but I have used the next lower models of each respective brand (Garmin 360 and Navigon 5100)..

What I like about Garmin (and Magellan) is that the user interface is very intuitive and simple to walk through. Key sequences are logical and short.

My dislike of Navigon is that it seemed to take many more keystrokes to get to the same point. It was hard for me to get the hang of it, and I had to read the instructions (!) whereas with Garmin I felt that the machine was guiding me through the same steps that I would have followed myself. The touch screen sensitivity also was off for me, requiring more re-types than I expected.

I would look at Navigon if I was trying to be cheap and take the off-brand route. But if Navigon and Garmin are at the same price, that decision is too easy for me. The off-brand that I would consider is Mio. I used it once with a rental car in Europe, and it worked beautifully (I have not used it in the US though).
