Additionally, the nüvi 765T includes Bluetooth connectivity to your cell phone and free real-time traffic updates from Navteq (for the life of the device) via the included GTM 20 traffic receiver.

The bright, 4.3-inch touchscreen display gives is anti-glare for ease of viewing during the day and automatically changes its color profile for easy viewing at night or in dim light. It offers 2d or 3D perspective views. The widescreen format gives you 70 percent more actual screen area than a 3.5-inch screen. Primarily this translates into a better view of the area through which you are driving. This is especially useful in showing you what parks, restaurants, ATM, gas stations, etc. are nearby, or in letting you know whether a detour is a good idea. Also, the device itself is larger, meaning controls on the screen are more widely spaced and somewhat easier to push.

The nüvi 765T comes preloaded with highly detailed City Navigator NT road maps from Navteq for the entire United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. This map database features nearly six million points of interest (POIs), including hotels, restaurants, gas stations, ATMs, and attractions. Garmin’s interface is a key to their success and one of the things that makes their devices such a pleasure to use. Simple controls and sub-screens make it easy to enter or search for destinations and get data about your trip.

Garmin’s patent pending theft prevention system that disables the unit from performing any functions until the user types in a specific 4-digit PIN or takes the unit to a predetermined secure location.

Important Product Information: This device features a “screen lock” feature. This is a standard feature on all nüvi 2×5 and 7×5 Garmin units. If you slide the “Power” key to the right, it will lock the screen and prevent any accidental touches. Once the screen lock feature is engaged, the screen will go black/gray after about 15 seconds to save power on the device. To unlock the screen, just slide the “Power” key to the center position. This feature is really targeted for “Pedestrian” mode so that a user can put the device in his or her pocket/purse and quickly unlock the screen instead of powering on/off continuously. I am looking into buying a GPS, I have heard the Nuvis are wonderful. I’d like one with MP3 player (just found out they even come with those- perfect because the person I am buying it for also had his MP3 player die!) and I would like to spend under $200. Is this a good choice?

Nuvi is a great navigator but under $200 is a tough one unless you get one used. I have a Nuvi 260w and love it. If you get one from eBay or Amazon make sure who you are buying from, I found out that authorized dealers are forbidden to sell on these sites from GARMIN unless they are used or refurbished and stated as so, anyone else would be a third party seller. I got my NUVi 260w from the website below.

My husbands birthday is coming up and I would like to buy him a GPS. He really knows about electronics so I want to get him something that is good, of course something not to expensive, preferably not to go over $200.00 dollars. I know he likes Garmin Nuvi, but that’s all I know. What I don’t understand is the whole number thing, for example : 200, 250w, 350 etc…I looked some up on ebay and Amozon, but I don’t know which one to get. My question is, for the amount that I’m willing to spend, which type of GPS should I get (within the Garmin brand of course) and why should I. It confuses me because sometimes the higher number is cheaper than a lower number or vice versa. Oh yea, and personally, what’s better amazon or ebay? Thanks

Best I can tell, the 250 is a larger screen version of the 200. Both come with preloaded maps and sd card slots. I will buy the 250, when I replace my current Garmin 3i. The 350 would exceed your price range. As for supplier of choice, I prefer good old Wal-Mart. It is just easier to return things there if needed. Good luck.

I plan to buy a Garmin portable GPS system for my car. I’d like get the best bang for my buck so plz let me know which of the two you would perfer – the Nuvi200 (sleek, slim design) at $300 or the C340 (bulky but speaks street names) for $350.

I’m a grad student (aka not rolling in dough) but would like to know how much the street-name-specific feature ("turn right on elm street in 500ft") would help. If it is that helpful, I’d go for it. I am in Austin, TX if it matters. Plus I get lost quite easily.

I would go for the extra bucks for the Nuvi that speaks the street names. Shop on Amazon, you may be able to get it a little cheaper.
