Garmin Nuvi 260 and 255w Reviews?
July 31st, 2009
Hi. I am interested in purchasing a GPS for my car and to carry around when I’m not the driver. The two I have in mind and from Garmin. The first one is the Garmin Nuvi 260 http://shop1.frys.com/product/5489249;jsessionid=19cRLqWgv9Hf0wN1fabtLw**.node3?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG
The second one is the Garmin Nuvi 255w http://shop1.frys.com/product/5567570;jsessionid=g4zAHAkdwvlTTtqNn3b8cQ**.node3?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG
For those of you who know something about GPS systems, which is better or which ones have you used and had positive/negative experiences with? Also what does the “w” at the end stand for? There is a $50 difference in price. I was told by the sales associate that the 255w is a newer model. But I have read around that the sound quality isn’t as great as the older model. The one I was going to buy is 3.5” so if anyone has any suggestions please help. Thanks.
The 255 that i own is great, no complaints about it. The major difference between the two is the updated map. If you’re someone who travels a lot you might want to invest in the newer version. You can go onto the Garmin website and click on the products you want to compare and they show you a very detailed chart with the products side by side so you can actually take a look at where they differ. The W is for wide screen. Usually more money, but since you’re looking for a 3.5, you can go without the W. The sound quality of my 255 isn’t that bad, you get to choose the voice you want; although the voice doesn’t sound as human as the older versions, it’s not that bad. It’s a trade-off. You get better features, but you lack the human sound (it’s a bit more robotic)

the "w" means widescreen so instead of having a standard 2.8 x 2.1" screen it will have a 3.81 x 2.25" screen
first off are you planning on buying it from that frys website? if so i found it almost $100 cheaper on amazon
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0011ULQNI/105-2440486-2041204?ie=UTF8&tag=marartpla-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B0011ULQNI
just trying to save you some money
not too sure about the nuvi 255 but if it is like the nuvi 250(which im pretty sure it would be) the only real difference between the nuvi 250s model and the 260s model are that the 260 has Text-to-Speech Directions and the 250s dont. in other words the nuvi 260 will say the actual street’s name.
also if you check on amazon the link i gave you there will be a chart which will show which nuvi is best for you based on the features you want on it. and it also has tons of customer reviews so you can see peoples praise and conflicts with each model
good luck!!
